With the vast amount of information available about supplements and hoof dressings on the market, we though we’d unravel the mess and recommend some useful products.  Only your farrier will know if your horse needs a hoof dressing or supplement.  These have worked the best for us over the years.

Hard, Dry Hooves

This isn’t really a problem!  Believe it or not, it is better to have a hard, dry hoof than it is to have a wet, brittle hoof.  However, if is difficult for your farrier to trim your horses hooves, consider a product to help minimze moisture loss without sacrificing strength.

Keratex Hoof Gel is a wonderful product for these horses.

Wet, Brittle Hooves

Do your horses hooves easily crack and chip?  Is it hard for your farrier to nail shoes on?  Does you horse loose shoes easily.

Treating the hooves on a regular schedule with Keratex Hoof Hardener Liquid will help! 

Poor Hoof Quality

If you horse had overall poor quality hooves, try a double approach.  Begin with regular treatments of Keratex Hoof Hardener Liquid, and begin a daily supplement with a product such as Smart-Pak’s Smart Hoof Ultra.

Poor Hoof Growth

Your horse just doesn’t grow a lot of hoof.  While some look at this as a blessing (less visits from the farrier) it can also mean trouble down the road.  If your horse is barefoot, it may be as simply as adding shoes.  More than that, begin a hoof supplement such as Smart-Pak’s Smart Hoof Ultra.

Good Quality Hooves...... I want to maintain them

Keratex Hoof Gel is a great maintenance product.  Adding a supplement such as Smart-Pak’s Smart Hoof will also be beneficial.  This is a slightly different product than the Smart Hoof Ultra, and is a little cheaper.
